Phil's background begins on a farm where he started operating heavy equipment at the impressionable young age of 10 years old. Phil grew a love for operating heavy equipment starting with operating mini excavators, and skid steers. At the age of 16 he began his career landscaping for a family friend. By the age of 20 he had started working for a company in Abbotsford operating backhoes. Phil has worked on major construction projects all over the lower mainland and Vancouver including sub contracting with his own company for Fortis gas. In 2009 Phil headed to northern British Columbia and Alberta to begin a very successful career working in the oil and gas industry, first building roads, tank farms and working in open pit mines. Phil quickly worked his way into pipeline construction as a foreman and general supervisor overseeing the construction of many kilometers of pipeline right of way. In 2016 Phil returned back to Vancouver Island to begin his next phase of his career as a superintendent in the civil industry building large housing developments and projects for the British Columbia Ministry of Transportation all over Vancouver Island. Phil and Neil, both from Vancouver Island met nearly a decade ago on a project in northern British Columbia, sharing the same drive, integrity, work ethic and vison for what a development company should be they decided to start Vima developments.
Neil grew up in a construction family. His career started on the weekends and summers as a laborer at the age of 12. Having been around construction and equipment the entirety of his life it was an easy transition to continue in his family's footsteps after graduating high school. Neil's professional career began running excavators and bulldozers, building and deactivating logging roads on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Neil's first challenge of his career came at just 22 years old when his father handed him the reigns as superintendent of the Telegraph Grove bridge project for the British Columbia Department of Highways on the northern tip of Vancouver Island. The oil and gas industry called to Neil next and he was picked to run a crew on a project for Shell in the oil sands in northern Alberta working to build the Albion extraction mine north of Fort McMurray. Neil was then hand picked to join a team as General Forman of the earth works division working in a live copper mine on a modernization project for Teck Resources at their Logan Lake facility. Soon after completing this project Neil decided to make the transition into pipeline construction and quickly moved into a Senior Forman position working on many milestone projects for companies like Pembina, Petronas, Husky, Shell, Enbridge and Cenovus Energy. After many years working away from home and sacrificing family time for work Neil and his family decided it was time for him to return to the place where it all began and put his focus on building something on Vancouver Island. Bringing together Neil and Phil's experience with their drive, determination and attention to detail together was an obvious and natural fit, paired with their vast network of professionals who share the same enthusiasm to build unique and innovative projects Vima Developments has everything covered for your family or business.
